Project 10’s drop-in and services have moved to 1575 Amherst, our new home called L’Astérisk.
L’Astérisk is a safer space for gay, lesbian, bi, trans* and questioning youth, 25 years of age or younger
Why a safer space for LGBTQ* youth?
LGBTQ* youth face many challenges in discovering their sexual orientation and gender identity. Many of them will have to deal with homophobia, transphobia, isolation and rejection while having to grapple with the same challenges of seeking autonomy and self-discovery which all youth face. These problems can be made worse when other systems of oppression such as racism, sexism, ableism and serophobia intersect. A space that is non-commercial, open and free of judgment for youth of 25 years or younger, where they can socialize with their peers and find support is the best means of contributing to the development of their resilience and empowerment. Located right next to the gay village, L’Astérisk* is an alternative to the bars. This space, half-way between a skillshare and a youth centre, will be a place where sexually diverse youth and the organizations that provide services to them can gather and find information.
About the Name
L’Astérisk* refers to the symbol often used to express inclusion, such as in the phrase “trans*” which includes, all at once, transgender, transsexual and questioning persons. L’* represents inclusion of all, without exception or prioritizing any one of the many identities individuals may adopt. L’Astérisk* is a contraction of the French and English forms of the word to emphasize the multilingual character of the space.
See the calendar of activities for the month . L’Astérisk* is also a space where LGBTQ* youth can take initiative and participate in social activities. Each month, young people and interested organizations meet to plan the calendar for the up-coming weeks. On the menu are collective kitchens, artistic creation nights,
homework help, discussions groups and much more! See our calendar and Facebook page for more details. Available at l’Astérisk or online at
