Volunteers Wanted!

Project 10, Jeunesse Lambda, and the Montreal Youth Coalition Against Homophobia (MYCAH) are looking for volunteers!

We are three LGBTIAQ* youth organizations sharing a new space at 1575 rue Amherst, called L’Astérisk! If you are interested in volunteering for any, or all three of our organizations, check out the call-out below!

2                               Animateurs/trices bénévoles de Jeunesse Lambda

Jeunesse Lambda est un groupe de discussion fait par et pour les jeunes gais, lesbiennes, bisexuel.le.s ou en questionnement de 14 à 25 ans dans la grande région de Montréal (les personnes trans* ne sont pas encore inclu.es dans notre mission, mais ils et elles sont la bienvenu.es.)

Nos activités inclues des discussions de groupe, des activités ludiques, de la cuisine collective, des conférences et bien d’autres. Nous cherchons des animateurs/trices âgé.es de 25 ans et moins s’identifiant comme une personne faisant partie de la diversité sexuelle. Nos allié.es sont aussi la bienvenu.es.

Nous cherchons des personnes dynamiques, ouvertes d’esprit, engagées, capable de recevoir de la critique constructive et avec un bon sens du travail d’équipe.

Nos soirées ont lieu le vendredi soir de 19 h à 22 h à l’Astérisk*, situé au 1575, rue Amherst à Montréal (station Berri-UQAM).

Aucune expérience nécessaire.

Nous écrivons des lettres de recommandation pour nos animateurs/animatrices! Cela vous fait de l’expérience et cela paraît bien dans votre CV.

3                                                Project 10 Drop-In Volunteers

Project 10 works to promote the personal, social, sexual, and mental well-being of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, transsexual, two-spirit, intersexed, and questioning youth and adults ages 14-25.

We are looking for drop-in volunteers for our bilingual weekly drop-in session. Drop-in takes place Thursday nights from 6:30 to 8:30 pm for LBGTIAQ* and allied youth 14 to 25. The drop-in is an open, semi-structured group, facilitated by staff and interns. The content of the drop-in is largely youth-directed.

Volunteers support drop-in by facilitating activities, providing active listening support and referrals, contributing ideas and feedback, while working from a harm-reduction, non-judgmental, anti-oppressive and youth empowerment approach.

What we are looking for in drop-in volunteers :

  • ability to speak French, English, and other languages
  • available to volunteer 6-10pm , two Thursdays a month, for one year
  • people who think Queer* and Trans* youth and their allies are awesome!
  • interest in facilitating workshops and activities
  • experience resisting racism and affirming QPOC identities in Queer communities
  • experience navigating trans* services locally/provincially
  • experience accessing services for LGBTIAQ* immigrants/refugees/migrants
  • gender-sensitive approach
  • knowledge of community sector resources
  •  interest or experience in peer support, harm reduction, youth empowerment, and active listening

Project 10 will prioritize volunteers who identify as LGBATSQ*, People of Colour, women, Gender Non-Conforming people, Trans* people, Intersex people, or working class. People who have experienced migration to Quebec/Canada, disabled people, people under thirty, and those without an academic background will also be given priority.

Volunteer training will be offered over two weekend days, dates TBA. Topics will include: Intro to Project 10, Queer and Trans Identities and Realities, Anti-Racism, Active Listening, and Harm Reduction. Only those selected will be invited for an interview.
